Plus, a set of 10 knot tying packs, two sling tying set-ups, a chain sling, calculator, and tape measure. *In order to comply with CTS training standards, each trainee must have their own study guide. All material is protected by copyright law and may not be copied or reproduced. All training offered by Certified Training and Safety consists of a combination of formal instruction (lecture, discussion, interactive learning, video, and written material), practical training (demonstrations performed by the trainer and practical exercises performed by the trainee), and evaluation of the trainee’s performance in the workplace. Upon successful completion of training, the trainee’s supervisor or training department will be provided a Certificate of Training – Walle Card (All classroom and hands-on evaluations are available upon request.) CTS Certification expires after 3 years and will require recertification training. Course Objective: The objective of this program is to assist the employer in producing a qualified rigger & signal person. This is a three-step process: 1. Providing the theory, hazards, and safe work practices of a rigger & signal person. 2. Providing the opportunity to practice rigging and guiding a load. 3. Having a Qualified person evaluate the trained worker to determine competency. Qualified Rigger/Signal Person training complies with training requirements established by The Occupational Safety & Health Act, Subpart H, Section 1926 Materials Handling and Subpart CC Section 1926 Cranes and Derricks in Construction. Employers must use qualified riggers during hoisting activities for assembly and disassembly work (1926.1404(r)(1)). Additionally, qualified riggers are required whenever workers are within the fall zone and hooking, unhooking, or guiding a load, or doing the initial connection of a load to a component or structure (1926.1425(c)). Signal person must be provided in each of the following situations: OSHA Signal Person Required: 1926.1419 OSHA Signal Person Qualification: 1926.1428 1. The point of operation, meaning the load travel or the area near or at load placement, is not in full view of the operator. 2. When the equipment is traveling, the view in the direction of travel is obstructed. 3. Due to site specific safety concerns, either the operator or the person handling the load determines that it is necessary.
